As a director, he made some of the most memorable films I can recall: Twelve Angry Men, Network, Dog Day Afternoon…
As a writer, he gave me, through his book Making Movies, a much better understanding of the craft of filmmaking than anything else I have read.
Goodbye, Mr. Lumet. You will be missed.

Ha, I was reminded of your Network freeze frame (and our ensuing exchange on the timeless topic of infidelity) from last January. I guess a remarkable thing about films (or for that matter, film-makers and freeze-frame posts) is that they provide a portal into a stage/phase in your life, or a particular perspective you’d held, that you can always hold apart and re-examine/re-visit.
